There are more than a dozen templates to choose from for each note, multiple formatting options, tags, and much more. Notes are organized into various notebooks, which can then be broken down further into different sections. For sorting features beyond this, users need to employ custom tags.Įvernote is organized more like a traditional notebook and has far more complex features than Google Keep. Users can also sort between regular notes and reminders. When it comes to finding notes, users have two options: the default Grid View and a List View. It provides users with a simple way to take notes and little else. Google Keep is simple, without a lot of unnecessary bells and whistles. You can also add reminders to notes, color code them, and create custom tags. Users can create four different types of notes: text, image, drawing, and lists. While the app doesn't quite translate your writing into raw text, your written words are searchable, so you can find your notes by searching for the labels you jot down on your drawings.Google Keep organizes notes in a post-it note fashion, allowing users to see a brief synopsis of what each note contains at a glance. The version that I tested was still in beta, so here's to hoping that the Evernote development team will continue to refine things over time. I can see the capability come in handy for mind-mapping or a quick sketch, but for standard notes full of words, you're going to want to stick with the keyboard. It's also difficult to use on a screen smaller than 5.5-inches (the size of the Samsung Galaxy Note II). The handwriting feature is fairly easy to use, but I had some issues getting the stylus and the handwriting mechanism to sync up perfectly. Swiping up and down with two fingers lets you pan through multiple pages in a note - handy when you have several doodles in a single note.
There's also an eraser and a Cut tool that lets you cut and paste sections of your handwritten note. There are four different pen colors to choose from, including red, blue, black, and green, as well as three different pen widths.
